Duties: Corporate affairs including proposal writing, marketing and sales, program and project management, overall profit/loss for company, all accounting/payroll and purchasing; oversees all procedures, QA/QC, and corrective actions associated with sample receipt, log-in, chain-of-custody, and storage; project management and general report production; client management; oversees operation of laboratory information management system (LIMS), including all software and hardware, general data entry, QA/QC, coordination with other project managers and technical staff, training of new users.
Personal: Paul grew up on a dairy farm in Mount Angel, Oregon, he now resides in Portland Oregon with his wife and four kids. Paul is a profound source of sports, music and entertainment trivia. He enjoys spending as much family time as he can; attending Portland Beaver Baseball is a family favorite. Weekends and evenings he spends time at swim lessons and kids sporting events, and tries to sneak in a little time on the Wii. During the week Paul keeps the rest of CLN running smoothly.
Lisa Ball
Project Manager, Sample Custodian

Education: B.S. Integrated Science, Portland State University
Duties: Perform sample receipt, log-in, and storage; project management and general report production; client management; general data entry, QA/QC, coordination with other project managers and technical staff.
Background: Numerous years of experience in environmental analytical chemistry, including: weighing of filters for gravimetric analysis, analysis of air quality samples, both ambient and source, for anions and cations by Ion Chromatography as well as wet chemical analysis of source samples by Code of Federal Regulations methodologies; extraction methods for the analysis of organic pollutants; hazardous waste wet chemical methods such as TKN and cyanide; various wet chemical methods for the analysis of anions in wastewater and soil.
Personal: Lisa was born in Portland, and has lived in the area her entire life. She and her husband are sports addicts. She enjoys football and rooting for the Carolina Panthers. In the summer she enjoys keeping busy with outdoor activities including golf, softball and tennis. Her current favorite "sport" is toddler chasing. Playing games with family and friends is a wintertime favorite. She currently resides in Canby, Oregon with her husband, two kids and their two cats.
Richard Sarver
XRF Scientist

Education: A.A.S. Chemical Technology, Chemeketa, Community College
Duties: Coordinate all XRF activities with President, Laboratory Supervisor, sample custodian and project managers as needed; serve as technical resource for analysts and clients with respect to XRF; train XRF technicians and oversee all XRF operations; market XRF capabilities to outside clients; responsible for maintenance and repair of instruments, supervise sample flow, analysis of samples by XRF, data interpretation, QA/QC and report generation from XRF analysis; perform highly specialized sample preparation for non-deposit samples, including size fraction and resusupension; project management.
Background: Twenty years analytical chemistry experience, including six years experience in biochemical applications and fourteen years experience in environmental air quality analysis, specializing in the analysis of air particulates by x-ray fluorescence. Currently a member of Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA).
Personal: Rick, a Portland native, now lives in Beaverton, Oregon with his wife and son. When not staring at a computer monitor at work, he spends much of his time struggling to learn Thai, and enjoys gardening, woodworking, and coaching his son's baseball team.
Sheri Heldstab
Inorganics Lab Manager and QA/QC coordinator
Hire Date: July 1992
Education: B.S. Biology, University of Oregon
Duties: QA/QC Coordinator, including oversight of standard operating procedure production and implementation, QA review of data reporting, technical guidance on general QA/QC issues, report production for all projects requiring CLP deliverables; general technical guidance for clients and in-house staff; supervision of technical and support staff; and oversee all operations of the Inorganics Laboratory. She ensures data meets QA/QC requirements of client to include the special air quality compliance testing requirements, manage the flow of samples and data through the laboratory; oversee and train chemists; ensure meeting of due dates; maintain and repair all instrumentation. Her numerous years of experience allow her to fill in as needed in all areas of the Inorganic Laboratory.
Background: Over 15 years experience in analytical chemistry. Experience with a wide variety of analytical methodologies including EPA methods, EPA SW846 methods, Code of Federal Regulations methods, California Air Resources Board, Standard Methods for the Examination of water and Waste Waters, NIOSH and ASTM; experience in method development of unusual sample matrices; experience in data interpretation and data validation; experience in technical writing of Standard Operating Procedures and other documentation. Currently a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS).
Personal: Born in The Dalles Oregon, during the Vietnam war, Sheri grew up the child of an active duty Army officer, living all over the United States and in Germany. She now lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon with her husband, two dogs and caique parrot. When not at work, she is busy singing playing the piano and tandem biking with her husband.
Jennifer Schleis
Chemist and Weighroom Technician

Education: BSES Environmental Economics and Management, University of Georgia
Duties: As a Chemist in the main Inorganics Laboratory her duties include sample preparation and digestion, analysis of a variety of samples for ionic and metallic constituents by IC, ICP, GFAA and CVAA; performance of level I data review in real time; maintenance and repair of instruments. Performs operations in the filter gravimetry laboratory, including maintaining filter supplies, acceptance testing of all filter media, gravimetric analyses at the milligram and microgram levels following EPA 40 CFR 50 protocols, QA/QC and corrective actions, record keeping and minor maintenance and repairs.
Background: Has run genetic analysis to include specialized assays, gel electrophoresis, PCR, sequencing, DNA isolation, extracts and media preparation. She has performed many wet chemical methods such as pH, conductivity, TKN, turbidity, and hexavalent chromium.
Personal: Jen was born in Nebraska. She has lived in numerous places growing up, including Maine, Georgia and Washington thanks to the United States Air Force. Jen currently resides in Portland with her husband and dog. She loves to enjoy all the northwest has to offer such as camping and live music.
Rachel Mori
XRF Analyst and Weighroom Coordinator

Education: B.S. Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning, UC Davis
Duties: As an XRF Analyst her duties include, sample preparation and storage, analysis of samples by XRF, assisting with maintenance and repair of instruments, data interpretation and QA/QC and report generation. Oversees all operations of the filter gravimetry laboratory, including maintaining filter supplies, acceptance testing of all filter media, gravimetric analyses at the milligram and microgram levels following EPA 40 CFR 50 protocols, QA/QC and corrective actions, record keeping and minor maintenance and repairs.
Background: Maintained, calibrated and managed XRF equipment and analysis. Designed and constructed air sampling equipment for special international studies. Performed data analysis and report writing. Rachel performed field work collecting air quality samples. She assisted in data collection of air quality samples including Proton Elastic Scattering Analysis.
Personal: Rachel was born and raised in Santa Barbara. She loves to travel. Rachel has had the opportunity to travel all over the United States, to Europe three times and numerous visits to Hawaii. She now lives in Portland and when she is not traveling or at work she enjoys hiking, camping, gourmet cooking and listening to NPR.
Brian Nacu

Background: General academic laboratory experience; experience in filter weighing using CFR methods for large and small filters of varying matrices; some analytical instrumentation experience. Brian evaluated evidence using microscopy; assisted in acquiring shoeprints from Nike archives; input outsoles into SICAR database.
Personal: Brian was born San Jose California. Recently married, he and his wife enjoy playing board games, skiing, playing video games and doing puzzles. In his free time he also officiates soccer and enjoys reading. Brain and his wife currently live in Tigard.
